PUBLIC HEARING
The City of Versailles will hold a public hearing on August 13th 2024 6:00 PM. at City Hall located at 104 North Fisher, to discuss the city’s submission of an application for the Fiscal Year 2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The city is interested in obtaining all citizen’s input on community development needs within the city. As part of the hearing process citizens will be asked to verbally assist in the completion of a Needs Assessment document. The document will detail what the residents feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the community. In addition to the Needs Assessment citizens will have the opportunity to discuss the impact of the proposed project on the environment and the environment’s possible impact on the project. The city needs as much local participation as possible in order to reflect the true desires of the community as a whole, as well as the comments relating to the proposed project application. The State has established a maximum application for each funding category. Activities that are eligible for funding include the improvement of public works, public facilities, housing rehabilitation and others allowed by law. At least 51% of the funds must be used to benefit low to moderate persons. No displacement of persons will be proposed.
The city is proposing to improve the streets in a targeted area of the city. The area to be addressed is Clay Street E to Ross Street, Ross Street North to Green St., Green Street East to Burke Street, Burke Street North to Newton Street, South side of Newton West to Oak Street, Oak Street South to Clay. Newton, Burke and Clay will not receive improvements but is used to establish the targeted area. The streets within this area that will receive improvements include Jasper Street, Washington Street, Green Street, Walnut Street, Hunter Street, Maple Street, Hicks Street and Oak Street.
Total project cost is $852,255.71. The City proposes to contribute $266,647.00 in cash, $10,608.81 inkind labor and equipment by city crews with grant funds of $ 575,000.00 to make up the difference. The project, if funded, will benefit 53% low to moderate income persons. All citizens, including those in the targeted area, are encouraged to attend in order to comment on the proposed activities.
